It looks like your dad has sepsis. Sepsis is a condition in which your body is fighting a severe infection. If you become "septic," you will likely be in a state of low blood pressure termed "shock." This condition can develop either as a result of your body’s own defense system or from toxic substances made by the infecting agent (such as a bacteria, virus, or fungus).
I have nursed a lot of patients who has sepsis. The doctors will give them a massive dose of antibiotic to help eliminate the infecting agent. Aside from this, the doctor will give intravenous fluids (if indicated for the person) to help elevate that blood pressure. In some cases, we give drugs (called inotropes) to help with the blood pressure as well.
I hope this has given you an insight. Hope your dad will get well soon.

For most individuals, a healthy blood pressure lies from 90/50 mmHg to 135/90 mmHg. A small drop in blood pressure, even as little as 20 mmHg, can result in transient hypotension.
Blood infection means septicemia. It is certainly a bad condition at the age of 81 if there is additional risk such as diabetes, hypertension, heart complaints, etc..

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

Check with your Dr. low blood pressure can be a problem just as high blood pressure. Depends on the rest of your health.

You know each individual is slightly different...see the source below for additional information. If I live to be 81, any blood pressure will be greatly appreciated!
