You probably could, but probably don't need the whole thing. You might consider using just a piece of it (one to two inches long), in a pot with water in it...The steam coming from the boiling water will probably be more aromatic than anything coming from the oven. There's also a risk of burning the vanilla if you dry cook it in the oven.

Keep the rest of the pod in an air tight container, and it will last for quite a long time. FYI, once you scrape the beans out of the pod, you can drop the skin of the pod into your sugar canister, to add a nice aroma & slight flavor to the sugar.

If you are just trying to scent the air in your house, your best bet would be to slice open the pod, scrape the seeds out with a knife, and simmer them in water. It will fill the house with the scent of vanilla. This works with lemon, lime, cinnamon, etc.
