Yep, it is HIGHLY contagious. Little kids and old people are especially susceptible. The sick person needs to stay home, avoid people, get lots of rest and take ALL of their antibiotics. They need to be rechecked by their doctor. At the recheck the doctor will listen to thier lungs, or xray their lungs again, to ensure it's gone. There are strains of antibiotic resistant pneumonia that require hospitalization and intravenous antibiotics are administered in hopes of knocking it out. People die from pneumonia all the time. It's very nasty stuff.

I had a rare kind that doctors had a hard time treating. My husband and family members never caught anything. I don't think it is highly contagious. Just don't share a cup, etc. but I slept next to my hub, and he was fine.
