If you and your partner have NEVER had intercourse, oral sex, anal sex with any other person, never done drugs or had a blood transfusion, then you should be safe and can not develop HIV or any other STD. If any of those conditions have been met then you might want to get tested.

In this day and age if your are anything other than abstinent, it would be possible to develop HIV.
Allow me to explain, I knew a guy that was in the perfect marriage. He loved her and she loved him, it was bliss! The two had a minor (or was it major) skirmish. They parted for a while, then realized how much they missed one another and reunited.
Ah, wonderful! Actually, not so wonderful, during the separation, someone cheated. (it doesn't matter which partner cheated.)
To make a long story short, they're both deceased because they trusted too much.
Be careful out there, trust no one, wear protection.
Pretty much safe? I wonder how many people thought they were pretty much safe until they learned they had the virus.
There, in my opinion, is no such thing as pretty safe. Assume the worst and save your lives.

If you've both been tested (which I highly advise before entering into any sort of sexual relationship with someone) and neither of you have any diseases beforehand, then you won't "develop" any. A sexually transmitted infection cannot be formed, it must already be in the system of a partner for that partner to transmit it to another.

If you're both clean and neither of you engage in sexual activity with outside partners or use infected IVs, you both should be fine.

As long as you both were clean to begin with and don't have any other partners, you will not get a STD.

if you and your partner are both virgins and having sex for the first time, you are less likely to contract an STD. if you are having unprotected sex with your partner, you are also having sex with everyone that he/she has ever had sex with in the past. make sure you share your health histories and always use a condom.
