Starting at age 2 give them time-outs. After the age of 4 send them to their rooms and take away privileges like their favorite toys for a few hours.

It depends on the child. Each child is different and some children simply do not respond to spankings but other you can just give them a look and they straighten up. A child without discipline will grow to be an embarrassment to his mother.

I have 3 sons. 25, 23 and 19. I grew up in a poor family with abusive and neglective, alcoholic parents. Somehow I survived it all and left home at 17 to join the military. I was determined to break the cycle and started my own family. My policy was that I would always trust them. I made it perfectly clear that I would always be there for them if they needed me.Even if they got in trouble,I would bail them out, ONCE. I would tell them,"Now that you know not to do that again, you've learned from your mistake.I emphasized personal responsibility and the consequences. I think in each circumstance, all the facts need to be out there for discussion.I never just said,"Dont do that." I explained why. We always talk alot about everything, not just stuff I wanna talk about. I felt like I was very involved from the time they needed a diaper changed to the time they graduated high school. Now they are men. out of 3 kids, I only handed out 5 whippings in their whole life.I hate whippings and they have always been the last resort for me. My boys knew by the time it came to that, they had earned it. I love my boys more than anything and they know it. They totally respect me and still come to me for advice. That makes me feel needed and they would, to this day do anything I ask with no complaints. But I am not the hero here. They are! because they have stepped up to the plate and took responsibility for their lives and made me very proud of them. I've never ounce had to bail them out of jail. When they were right, I vigorously defended them. When they were wrong, they knew they were wrong and took responsibility for it and learned from it. We are a close knit family and we help each other, no matter what. They are never afraid of being ridiculed or yelled at because we look at the problem and together, find the best solution.
If you have bad parents, do not let their behavior influence you to be like them. I proved to my parents I would not live like they did and now my children are perfect examples of good parenting and I am greatful for their cooperation in helping me be the best parent I can be.So, in the end I think it's all about mutual respect for each other with a touch of communication.

Well when i dicipline my son i spank him and because hes very bold and immune to this i sit him in the time out corner but if he gets real bad he goes to sit in his bed without his pasifier. But you cant use the bed too much because he would get scared of going to bed.

i was all for giving a little smack on the back of the legs till i realized it wasn't working, now i just use the whole time out thing and i think it is starting to work. I don't think some people can handle smacking, there is always the chance of going overboard, just on the news this week a father pulled his 3yr finger nails out with pliers just sick.
