I need to cook a food for my geography class from a different country other than the United States. The dish should be cold because I live far away from my college. ANY IDEAS?

How about a dessert like Baklava (Greek)?
The advantage is it does not need to be heated.

See linke below for recipe...

Mexican tostadas can be prepared a day ahead and eaten cold since everybody has a chance to make their own tostada to taste. You can take each of the ingredients separately in tuppers and let everyone start by spreading refried beans, then shredded meat or chicken, tomato and avocado slices, shredded cheese (Mexican Cheese, not Monterrey Jack or Cheddar PLEASE) manchego cheese , chihuahua cheese, farmers cheese, cream, salsa and salt. You need to eat them fast because the flat tortilla that serves as the base for the tostada can get soft and break apart, so eat fast, it is the equivalent of an American Burger that slops all over, but delicious, take plenty of napkins because you will need them. Tostadas by the way mean toasted, because the tortilla is flat and toasted. Frying them is better for this because they last longer without getting soft once you put all the ingredients in place.

This dish is relatively inexpensive and very delicious. It does not belong to a particular region in Mexico because it is eaten all over the country, with some variations as indicated in the site listed as source. If a beverage is needed you can make some iced hibiscus flower tea, we know it as jamaica, or you might try fruit flavored water as listed in the site provided below, personally I would stick to cantaloupe water or Jamaica (Hibiscus flower) You can buy them in powder form like koolaid from Mexgrocer and just mix with water.

Good Luck and as we say in Mexico Buen Provecho (Bon Apetit)

This is based on an authentic recipe from Taiwan, given to me by a friend. The dish is served cold. Eating these noodles on your birthday or New Year's Day is supposed to give you a long and healthy life.

Long Life Noodles

1/2 lb. steak, sliced in thin strips
1 lb. spaghetti or long thin noodles
2 T. vegetable oil
1 tsp. sesame oil - plus
1 T. soy sauce - plus
1/2 c. fresh bean sprouts
1/2 c. fresh pea pods
1/4 c. chopped fresh broccoli
1/4 c. sliced red or green bell peppers
dash of pepper
2 green onions, chopped
1 tsp. sugar
salt to taste

In hot wok or large frying pan, heat small amount of oil; stir fry steak. Drain and set aside.

Cook noodles according to pkg. directions. Drain and place in a large bowl. Blanch vegetables in boiling water, each separately; drain well. Add meat and vegetables to bowl.

Mix oils, soy sauce, pepper and sugar; pour over and mix well. Season with more soy sauce and sesame, if needed. You also can add water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, shrimp, chicken strips, if desired.

Irish soda bread:

Yum!

(Bring a jar of Lingonberry preserves, which you can get from an Ikea in your area, to represent Scandinavian food, and you can make a Viking invasion of Ireland food-talk.)

Sashimi!!!! Easy... just slices of raw fish... you don't even need to cook them. To transport even for 2-3 hours, just leave them frozen and slice them on site!
