Push your furniture up against the walls so people can sit on the edges of the party if they want and still have room to move around. Think about the flow of traffic to the bathroom and food/drink station. Depending on the layout of your place, you may want to set up more than one drink station to keep people from causing a traffic jam in front on the drinks. Keep the music at a level where you can still talk over it, unless people start dancing then you want it loud. Think about all your usable space, possibly a patio, or hallway that people could spill into for a break from the party or to smoke. Set up ashtrays in the area you want people to smoke so they will hopefully get the idea without needing to be told. Invite your neighbors, even if you don't know them well, then you know they won't mind the noise plus you may get invited to their next party! Good luck!

your party ends up being the best kind! De-clutter for the evening as much as possible, the main areas that guests will be in. Even if you have to load up half your bedroom! It will be more open to move around and your really cared about things will not have to be worried about (breaking). Borrow some chairs, but at parties people like to mingle, not everyone may need a chair. Coats can be laid on your bed.
Decide on food (keep it basic and easy finger food), beverages(line up some coolers with plenty of ice) and decor (strung up lights are fun, so are balloons-helium filled) bring on the music and let the merriment begin!!

Oh yes, and invite me!

When selecting party guest, avoid the power drinkers and especially the drug users. Avoid people that tend to enjoy picking fights or have deep grudges with other people at the party.

Serve finger food, and keep it coming to counter some of the alcohol. Make sure the bathroom is clean, and keep it clean! The ladies get quickly grossed out from a urine drenched toilet seat. If you have 2 bathrooms, make one guys and one gals.

Above all else, don't drink and drive!!!

I have a pretty small apartment as well and throwing parties sucks. People are all crowded around and running into eachother. Your going to have to limit the amount of guests you invite and trust that they are not all going to bring their own gang of people. Make sure there is places to sit also. Theres nothing worse than just standing all night.

A great party is about good company, great food, drink, music and laughter. Invite your best friends, make a pot of spaghetti with meatballs, salad, french bread, brownies for dessert, have lots of candles, great wine, open the door to the balcony and put on some of your favorite tunes.

Make sure you invite only a select group of people - not an "anyone's welcome" type of invitation! No one can truly have a good time if they're packing into a place like sardines in a can!!
