Do you think this is the only country where they go house to house? They publish in 256 languages. I would imagine that more than a few are in predominated Muslim countries. As for here, do you think a Muslim hangs a sign on their door declaring themselves. A lot of so-called good Christians would take that as a challenge or threat.
They follow certain patterns in doing the house to house work, but some neighborhoods do get worked more than others. Some of te elder women tend to work areas they are more familiar with.
They are not there to convert you, but to see if you have begun to see what all is wrong with the world around you and begun seeking answers that Christendom can't give you. As you grow older, you view of the world changes.
My stepfather was a Korean War Vet and hated the witnesses. He would take the books and burn them. Than one day he read one. Something had changed. That was over 40 years ago. The man who studied with him just passed away this month, and my stepfather, as well as my mother, are beginning to see the end of their paths through life. They don't fear death, as they know they will be together in the resurrection, only with perfect human bodies.

Jehovah's Witnesses do not "pester" anyone, but they do try to make personal visits on all in the community.
(Acts 10:34-35) God is not partial... the man that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.
A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to "recruit" a householder, or get him to "convert". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!
That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.
(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.
Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:
(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

They are equal opportunity pesters. I only have experience with the the LDS (Mormons). I've never had any trouble with the JW's bugging me.I hope they are not as bad as the Mormons. To the LDS every, single religion on the face of the earth is wrong except for The Church of Jesus Christ According to Joseph Smith. They feel that they must save us all, can come unto their false Jesus and prophets.I used to feel that way until I came to know the real Jesus and was saved. I hate to think of where Joseph Smith is now, for leading countless people away from the God of the Bible.

I do not "Pester". Your question leads me to believe that the word "pester" is a replacement for harass.
For me - no one is a lost cause. BTW - Mormons are Christians just like Catholics, Lutheran's Methodist, Baptist, Jehovah Witness, Presbyterians, etc.

We the (Mormon's) view all souls as having great worth. I want to share the great happiness I have found with any one who will listen. I however do not believe in running any ones religion down.
