Sorry, in order to help you it would be necessary to know what condition she has since there are many that can cause aspiration pneumonia.

For example, when my son was younger, he suffered aspiration pnuemonia due to a hiatal hernia and severe GE reflux. He also could never sleep flat but could eat sitting up...at a full 90 degrees. He had nissan fundoplication surgery done to fix his problem.

Since your doctors say nothing can be done, I'd be very curious to know your sister's diagnosis. I'd like to know if it is a rare condition or one with which I am familiar. If you know the diagnosis, please post it in the details and, if I can help, I will.

You'ven't mentioned how old she is? I'm giving this answer considering her as adult. Aspiration pneumonia can be due to Gastro-oesophageal reflux Disease (GORD). It can occur when gastro-oesophgeal sphincter is loose, or due to increased acid production. Medically you can treat it with Proton Pump inhibitors like Omeprazole 1 tab. daily. Or There are some surgical procedures to increase the tone of cardiac sphincter. But these modalities only partially treat the condition. And if she is a child and less than year ; which i hope not; then she may have tracheo-oesophageal fistula. And It can be treated perfectly through surgery.
