I have postural hypotension but my doctor didn't tell me much since he wants to do some more tests (echocardiogram et 48 hour holter monitor) What some things I can do to help my dizzy spells and syncope? Can anyone give me some causes of this condition?

Drink more fluids and eat more salt. If you pass all those test the doctor gives you he might then tell you he is going to have you take a tilt test. If the test is positive - if you pass out on the tilt table the doctor will specifically tell you drink more fluids and eat more salt. IT IS THAT SIMPLE but the echocardiogram and the 48 hour holter monitor will make sure that your heart having an irregular beat (which if it does may be treated) that could be the cause of your syncopy.

Postural drop in blood pressure sometimes happen when you don't have enough fluids in the body. I have came across loads of patients with this condition. Why don't you wait what is the result from the Echocardiogram and holter monitor and see what it is. For the meantime, when you get up from a standing position try to sit first before you stand up. This will allow your body to adjust with the changes of the position.

The cause of postural (orthostatic) hypotension is a weak heart or irregular heart beat. Some things you can do to lessen your symptoms is buy some JOBST stockings; evevate the head of your bed 4-6 inches (use some books, bricks, blocks of wood); eat small frequent meals; avoid hot showers; get up from a sitting/lying down position slowly. I would also suggest talking to a physical therapist for some training on how to go from a sitting/lying to standing position that would be the best for you since I don't know your capabilities. I wish you good luck.
