Real vegetarians do NOT eat fish. Anyone who calls themselves a vegetarian and continues to eat the flesh of another creature is either lying to themselves or lying to you. Recent studies have proven what we vegetarians knew all along - a fish can feel just as much pain as any other creature.
And as for why people become vegetarians and vegans - it is a healthier, more energetic, less fat-based diet, and the brutal treatment of animals raised for slaughter, dairy, eggs, fur, and testing should not be allowed to continue.

Someone who claims to be vegetarian but still eats fish is simply not a vegetarian. Maybe they think they are vegetarian and just don't understand that being vegetarian means you don't eat the flesh from any kind of animal. So no mammal flesh, bird, fish, reptile, amphibian, insect, crustacean etc
Pescatarian is a term used to describe the eating patterns of someone who is not an ovo or lacto vegetarian, but does restrict the intake of certain meats.
Many people don't believe pescatarians have a right to say they're vegetarian because fish are animals and animals have flesh. And if you eat flesh you are not a vegetarian
You ask "why become vegetarian?"
Well to put it short, I am a vegan for my health, for the environment and for the animals. To learn more just google up vegetarianism.

Some vegetarians do not think that fish (or seafood) are a meat. I do therefore I don't eat fish or seafood.
I became a vegetarian when farmers were stuffing their animals full of steriods and I didn't want to eat that. So I became a vegetarian and have been one ever since. Since them, congress has passed laws regulating how farmers feed and treat their animals so it isn't as iffy to eat the meat. But I have been a vegetarian for so long that I have found it easier to not eat meat. In fact, I even get sick if I try to eat it so it is just easier to steer clear of it.
Hope this answers you question!

Many people claim to be a vegetarian because it's better for your health. But I personally don't buy that notion. Meat is part of a balanced diet, it contains things that are not generally found in plant products. There are certain things that can be used as a substitute, but they are just that, substitutes. It is true than many in North America eat more meat than they should on a daily basis, but that's an unbalanced diet, the problem isn't the meat itself.
For the most part Vegetarianism is about the animals. You often hear rhetoric about not causing suffering, or not killing an animal just for food. That's fine for those that feel that way. But really, unless you have some moral objection to eating meat, or a medical condition, eating meat is not harmful.
Really what makes any diet healthy or not, is the individual's will power and careful control of what they eat. If you watch what you eat, whether it includes meat or not, and make sure you get everything your body needs, you will be healthier.

A better question is why NOT become a vegetarian. Mother nature provides all of the nutrients you need in a plant and grain based diet-nothing has to scream, bleed, or die to satisfy the nutritional needs of humans, so why cause unnecessary suffering for an animal, just to satisfy a greedy appetite? Vegetarians dont eat fish, but pescatarians do. Perhaps you should start out that way, which is what I did. I used to eat fish, but no longer do. I have found adequate protein sources and no longer need the protein I was getting from fish. I love the veggie lifestyle, and so does my young daughter-we feel great! You dont need to follow anyone elses rules-if you want fish, have fish. You are doing a huge service to yourself healthwise if you opt for total veggie. Good luck!

Cheese pizza is fine. Vegetarian chili (sans meat) is fine. Vegetarian lasagna is outstanding. Mashed potatoes with vegetable gravy...Tacos! Nachos. Something I love is a meatball sub with out the meatballs- simply the marinara sauce, cheese, mayo and sizzling peppers. I'm no longer fine with the nutrients part of being vegetarian, however I do recognise what tastes well. :)

Because they want to call themselves "vegetarians" but they really aren't. Because vegetarians don't eat meat, and fish is meat.

After I read all of your answers, I thought about my question and your answers, then what I concluded is. You really care about animals which it is something make feel good and carried me saying to my self “ohh good there are still good people in this life” however, how about human, do you really care? And this question is strictly for those who answered and for these who will answer the same may.
Do you know that there are many families were killed not the same way Jennifer answered me with here video from www.meat.org , but worst than that, for instant mum killed with here baby while she is breast feeding her in Palestine. Iraq, and Afghanistan. What have you do done for them, okay for animals we can stop eating animals how about human????? This is my new question?
