HPV goes away on its own for most people. Their bodies are basically able to "fight it off". Some people however will have it their entire life because there is no cure.

Since there is currently no test for men to detect HPV, it's basically impossible for them to know if they have gotten rid of the virus or not. They might not show any signs or symptoms (that's VERY common with HPV), but they might still have the virus.

It's possible to get rid of genital warts caused by HPV by using medication or having them removed. But, just because the warts are gone, doesn't mean the virus necessarily is.

Is that guy serious? How do you suppose it is an STD if men can't get it? Of course men can be carriers of HPV of which there are about 100 strains of the virus. Some cause genital warts, some cause cervical cancer and some have no symptoms at all in either men or women. It is like any other virus (like a cold), your immune system takes care of it for you. Most infections either resolve spontaneously or become non-transmissible after several months. There are no antiviral medications that are effective for HPV.

No, but there is also no treatment for women. If you have a strain of HPV that causes genital warts (called low-risk HPV) then there are treatments for those for both men and women. I also want to note that HPV is not like herpes or HIV. HPV can be attacked by the immune system. 90% of HPV cases resolve themselves just by your own immune system fighting it off. It may take years to do this, but usually HPV can be gotten rid of.

Well.. Im not speaking from personal experience but there is a possibilty of treating warts in the same fashion as plantar warts since they are both cause by PV. Warts (the symptom, not necessary the viral infection) were once successfully treated with formulin (or buffered 10% gluteraldehyde solution). Its formaldehyde basically and its pretty bad stuff. It wont get rid of the virus but it may shorten the duration of your warts.

So far I have not met anyone willing to put formaldehyde on their junk. I would appreciate any feedback on this (anyone w/hpv tried it?)

PS- You might want to consult your physician first.

This question is still not as ignorant as the comment posted by the first user. Its a sad thing that "only girls can get that" as if we just say HELLO CAN I GET A SIDE OF FRIES WITH MY HPV. Men give it to us and then we have to deal with this.

But anyway, to answer your question you cannot rid yourself of this it is there for good. You can treat the discomforts, and hope they dont come back for more with staying healthy.

Good Luck!

Only girls get it? Holy moly, people need to inform themselves. You can't cure HPV, but you can treat it. They remove the wart-causing HPV by freezing the warts with liquid nitrogen. There are also ointments that work. HPV can be for life, although many times your own immune system will eliminate the virus. It can, however, lay dormant after the symptoms have subsided. You can have it and never have symptoms, yet you are still contagious. 80% of the sexually active population of the USA have at least one from of HPV. Condoms are not much good in prevention of most strains of HPV, as skin contact is all that is needed. These people are so dead wrong in their answers. Some strains MIGHT be linked to cancer of the penis (the strain that leads to cell changes or cervical cancer in women), but it is thought that poor hygiene is a greater contribute, as well as not being circumcised. The role of circumcision is still a hot debate. It is thought that it is linked to penile cancer because it is more difficult to have good hygiene if you are uncircumcised. Cancer of the penis is the rarest form of cancer in the USA and most developed countries. Whoever gave me a thumbs down....what for? My answer is totally correct!

You can't "get rid" of HPV, it is a virus that you will have for life. Better educate yourself now and USE CONDOMS. You can pass this on to partners and possibly give them a strain of it that causes cervical cancer.

You can't get rid of HPV in men OR women. Once you've got it, you've got it.

Fortunately for men, it doesn't do any damage we know of.
