Completely normal. Your lungs are now begining to clean themselves out which will lead to some chest discomfort, difficulty breathing, excess phlegm and increased coughing for a few days to a few weeks. Don't worry though, it will all be worth it. Grats on quitting and good luck!

Flu is around. After quiting very heavy smoking, cough out green stuff once a day when waking up and it is gone after 2 weeks, but i jogged quite a lot. Suggest aerobic excercise daily. 1/2 gallon of dark green tea with lemon and honey, and boiled big onion with pumkin and vitamine calcium are helpful for lung cells. Should take X-ray as precaution.

Yes, I think you're starting to bring up tar and other bad stuff. It's a stage in the recovery process. Don't start smoking again.

I quit smoking in April of last year. Went 6 months and 1 day and started back. I have recently quit again. When you quit smoking your body plays all kinds of tricks on you. My heart was skipping and such after the first few days. Hope you can hang in there, it's really hard to quit.
Don't you just hate it when you talk to others about quitting, (that have never smoked) and they say stuff like, "Well, just quit, just put em down", etc. They have no clue. Here is a site that has help me tremendously,,,also has lots of info about all these withdrawal symptoms. Good luck.

Hot showers & steam will help. Don't forget to cough & spit when you are in the shower! Yeah, I remember this kind of pain too. Drink lots of liquids & keep your chest & lungs covered, out of cold air, & warm. Good luck. It is hard, but in the end, it's so well worth the pain & effort. Saving $5 or more a day is one of the best things about quitting, & not having to always be looking for a store that sells your brand & something to light it with. Keep a pencil in your hand to take the place of that cigarette, it helps the cravings...really!
