I tried to chomp them up in a blender to use as egg substitute and it was a no go...or rather a spin the seeds around the blender...guess you need a coffee grinder for that or mortar and pestal...At least I had Ener G to use...

Try buying milled flaxseed. You get more of the omega-3s out of it if its milled. And its perfectly fine to sprinkle into baked goods.

You do need a coffee grinder or a mortar & pestle to grind them.

If you use them whole or ground, they will suck up a lot of liquid, so you'll need to adjust the amount of liquid that you use in a stuffing.

However, you can only get the oil form them (and it's very, very good for you) by breaking the seed open. A person eating something with whole flax seeds will only be able to do that with a very few such seeds. If they're ground, you get the oil. Also, if they're ground, they're easier ti "hide" in your recipe.

Whole or ground, they still have laxative qualities, but in the quantities that you're talking about, that would be just about negligible.

As an egg substitute, you need 1 tablespoon of flax seeds (whole or ground) and 3 tablespoons of water to replace a large egg.

You've not said how much you weigh. If you way 20stone then yeah, you will loose weight, but if you way 6 then no. You do not have anywhere bear enough fruit and veg. Only one thing here is home made. More importantly, you need to make sure it is healthy. And you should be eating 1500 cals a day at least. 1000is not enough for a 13yeR old. If you are not loosing weight eating 1500 cals a day you need to look at the type of food you are eating, the time if day you are eating and the amount of exercise you are doing. Never eat less than 1500 or you just be starving yourself. Good luck

I have a trick for making a great egg sub-grind the seeds in a coffee bean grinder (I found one for a dollar at a thrift store) I use 1 tbs ground flax with 4 tablespoons warm water per egg. Allow it to gel for about 5 minutes-its the exact consistancy and volume of an egg. I make great muffins with it and quinoa flakes-almost like real bread. I am allergic to wheat, soy, eggs, and other things, so I am always finding creative ways to replace foods I can no longer have. I am assuming you are allergic to eggs. You could use flax seed whole not only in breads but also in Granola. It looks nice and supplies your omega-3 too.

yes it is ok but i use the powder from the health food stores. Family hates the seeds in their teeth.

Yes, it's fine.

I find they hide best in baked goods like muffins, fruit breads, or even meatloaf or meatballs.
