Dear fellow go to the Doctor & first try to find out cause of low Hb .In India the most commen cause is Iron deficiency if it is Iron tab. or syrup may help .2nd cause in India is folic acid defeciency so add to your diet with green vegitabeles . Though both iron &folic acid defeciency are commen in India hence govt. supplies combind tab. of it intake of these drug increases Hb to normal with in three month if no gastrointestinal absorption problem exhist.NOTE;in India such type of tretment is very commen even without knowing the underlying cause hence one(even prescriber Doctor) should be caucious if Hb dose not rises after (at least 1 month) tratment& try to find out causes eg.
1try to know if there any deases where blood is regulaly lost eg haemarroides.
2is there any worme infestation ?
3 in female is there any period problem eg.exessive blood loose during menses;(menorragia) irregular menses comes early &remain for more duration(metroragia) mauy other conditions commenly nammed as D.U.B.
Any how one should seek for cause &it must be treated accordingly.& for the Doctores a thalasimic children who are on regular blood transfusion don't prescribe them iron as they are fully loaded with iron.
at last one should also keep in mind occult blood loose eg any G.I.T Ulcer&malignancy in all these cases without treating cause you will not be able to increase Hb.IN SHORT & SWEET TREAT ACCORDING THE CAUSE DON; BEAT ARROUND THE BUSH.

If haemoglobin level is too low, the patient may need blood transfusion, but if it's just few levels from the normal value then an iron supplement will need to be taken. Iron is best absorbed when taken with orange juice not milk. It can cause constipation too. Try to search more in Internet about anaemia.

have you had a h&h done at your lab? Are you suffering from stomach ulcers or noticed any blood in your urine or stools? Your doctor may schedule some testing to see where you are losing the blood from. Hopefully, your physician will do this instead of just throwing an iron supplement your way.

The prime cause of deficiency would be food habits,Its very important for every individual to realise medicines give a temporary solution to the hiccups. And parents insist on your children to take up a balanced food.
You can certainly try some cure on your own,try having dates, oats regularly with your meals.eat a lot of leafy vegetables. If you are a non-veg you can try your hand on fish.

the causes of low haemoglobin are several.it could be due to
1.low Iron -caused by poor diet, low absorption of iron, blood loss due to gastric ulcer, haemorrhoids etc
treatment Iron supplements for 3 months & Vit c
2.low Vit B12/pernicious anemia- caused by malabsorption of the vitamin, bad diet. treatment supplements of Vitamin B12
3.inherited defects...in the synthesisof the haemoglobin chain
eg:thalessamia, sickle cell anemia...the treatment of these conditions are different
so first you need to know what type of anemia you are dealing with then appropriate treatment can be given .
there are a number of test which include
complete blood count, microscopy of the blood film

First of all, have a medical check up and make sure that you don`t have any complaint of hook worm/tapeworm or any such parasites. If otherwise , take medicine and de - worm it. Take food items containing more iron content. Green leaves (spinach, drumstick leaves etc) and vegetables , almost all kinds of fruits are recommended. Other foods as usual.

Just taking supplements wont help you have to enhance the absorption of iron by taking vitamin c, which enhances iron absorption.. most of the iron deficiency is cause by insufficient absorption of iron..
Iron from meat is absorbed more easily than iron from plants

Take iron tablets & eat more liver. Iron-rich foods help in the production of haemogoblin.
