Depends on what the heartrate is. Tachycardia is classed at any heart rate over 100 beats per minute. If someone's heart rate is 102 then they probably not treat it. If you are talking about a Supraventricular Tachycardia, then Adenosine would be the drug of choice. A person with this condition can have a heart rate up to 250 to 300 beats per minute. If this drug fails to work then lopressor or electric cardioversion would be the next choice.
If some one had a high heart rate, 110 or greater then they may give a beta blocker to help slow the heart rate.

mostly beta-blockers, meds that keep the heart rate down. Some are atenolol, Inderal. They block the action of adrenaline.
Lanoxin is another med which slows and strengthens the heart beat.
