i have been a vegetarian for 16 years(since i was 7 years old) and me, my boyfriend, and our son have been going to this mexican resturant at least once a week for about 6 months. i get the so called "vegetarian" platter, with the cheese enchilada and a bean burrito. well, we went there today, and i got my same plate, but this time, i seen meat in the sauce when i got it. i asked the girl, and she said the cook swears theres no meat, so she brought it back to me. i found a couple more pieces of beef, (which my b/f varified for me) and sent it back to get one with no sauce.the waitress said she asked the cook, and he said that all the enchilada sauce, is cooked with beef, but they try not to get the meat in the vegetarian plates. i feel like i have been so deceived into believing it was a vegetarian meal, when its not even close to being. what do you guys think i should do? *thanks for any input*

Yea, I would be extremely mad if I was you. I'm not a vegetarian but I think it would be a restaurants responsibility if they advertise vegetarian, that it is actually vegetarian. The restaurant I work at uses separate cutting boards, pans, utensils (spatulas, tongs, etc) for things we label as vegetarian.
There is a something known as "the truth in menu law" ei. if you say something is 10oz, it has to be, if you say it is homemade, it has to be. If they claim it to be vegetarian it has to be, including no animal stocks, or any meat products. Which they obviously didn't follow.
You can bring it to the attention of the NRA (national restaurant association). Or maybe even the better business bureau

A Similar thing happened to me at Carries Restaurant in Salmon Arm. I ordered Vegetarian Vegetable soup and I was given Vegetarian Chunky Vegetable Beef soup! The one that took my order did not serve me. Someone else served me. She wasn't told that I was vegetarian. The person that took my order knows I'm a vegetarian. They later told me they ran out of vegetarian vegetable soup and didn't want to lose an order. They said they tried to remove the meat from the soup but that it was impossible to get it all! Vegetarians are also charged extra there for Vegetarian food. Needless I don't eat at Carries anymore. I sometimes go there for coffee though! Your question is How do you feel? Angry and cheated.. I bet you feel the same way! As soon as I can afford it I will be opening up a Cafeteria called Veggy Corner! Maybe You can open one too that's if you're good cook or at least know someone who is!

That is really not acceptable as far as the issue of food safety or the reputability of the owner and cooking staff of the restaurant. I would NEVER eat there again. What would they do if you were allergic to peanuts and ordered something fried?? Tell you the peanut oil is canola oil??
This isn't even a question of vegan or vegetarian eating/lifestyle as it is a lack of responsibility on the part of the chef and cooks. Not cool, and with the wrong ingredient someday could be lethal.

total misadvertisment the should NOT be advertising for a vegetarian dish when it has MEAT in it (like with McDonalds when vegetarians found out that their frenchfries were being fried in animal product based oil/grease) i would say if u want to pursue it then report them or if u don't want to take it that far just eat somewhere else either way i would NOT eat there again

Most refried beans in Mexican restaurants have lard in them. Not to mention the cheese was probably made with rennet. Wile I agree they shouldn't have lied to you, I fail to see the hard and fast distinction between slaughterhouse products, and slaughterhouse by-products. If in fact the beans have lard and the cheese was made with rennet the meal was not vegetarian anyways.

thats false advertising! How dare they. Why do ignorant people think vegetarian is just no meat? I would be all over the manager of that place. So sorry for you for being deceived like that! I can only imagine how you are feeling about it. Yet another reason I no longer eat out. Too many clueless people on this planted. The only input I can give you is my sympathy for those idiots interpretation of vegetarian.

This makes me so mad. I have had this happen to me too. It is way too common for restaurants to these things to us. It makes me question their food handling and hygiene practises in general- let alone being furious that they are trying to feed me meat.
I am unsure if it is possible to sue in these cases- but if it is then I think it is worth it. Maybe they will take people seriously then.
If that isn't a possiblitiy then maybe go to the restaurant board or restaurant regulations people (I don't know what they are called)
Don't forget to tell everyone not to go there.

tell the manager or owner. this could be a problem as some people cannot eat meat due to digestive disorders and they could get seriously ill from it. if no resolve try your local better business bureau. i call it false advertising, when you describe a item as vegetarian, it means NO meat. none, nada , zilch. if no resolve, quit eating there and pass it on to your friends. one unhappy customer can cost a business 25-50 more people lost to his business

I would be so mad.You should have the manager change it so it doesn't say "vegetarian" on the menu so no one else orders it and thinks it vegetarian. They probably use lard in all their dishes also.I know my great grandma cooks almost everything with lard, she won't use vegetarble oil or even olive oil.

I'd be mad at them, and wouldn't return... and tell them WHY you are not returning! I'm sure you've been eating pork fat (lard) in your bean burrito as well. I'm also worried that sending your plate back that many times got you some other animal-derived product you weren't expecting, either (a big fat loogie)!
