If you are on a good diet and exercise routine, not overweight, and otherwise in good health, there should be no need to take B12 injections. Spend the money on something more useful, like nutrition education.

If you have Pernicious Anemia (more common in Type 1 diabetics since it is also an autoimmune disorder), you cannot stop taking your B12 injections or you could die.

Please call around to find someone who can provide them for you. Your local hospitals, low cost clinics, and social services may help.

Some studies have shown that extremely high amounts of oral B12 supplements (at least 1mg/1000mcg) can be taken in someone with stable PA. Some people with PA are able to absorb a trace amount of such a high dose, which was never thought possible before. You would not be able to get these amounts through food, however.

Diabetics with kidney disease may also need these injections. There are also many other reasons.

Tell your doctor what you can afford to pay.
