i believe i have emphasema. am i entitled to disability benefits?

Question

i was a dry wall finisher for about 30 yrs. now i am unable to do any physical labor because of breathing difficulties.i also suffered a heart attack 6
yrs. ago.presently i am unemployed and have no income.i could probably get a retail job but i doubt it would pay enough to survive on. i have no medical insurance either.

Sorry that this has happened to you. If you have the 30 years of work history, you may be able to get disability benefits through social security. But your doctor would have to let them know the extent of your disability. If your heart is no more than 30% usable, you would qualify. If you are a veteran, you can get medical treatment through a local VA hospital.
The first step is to see your doctor and go from there.

It's possible. I had real bad pneumonia afew years ago and it messed up my lungs so that I am always short of breath and tire very easily. With the help of my doctor, I was able to get disability payments for life and I'm only 39. I'm in Canada so if you're in The U.S. the rules may be different. Check with your doctor, he may be able to answer this. I'm not sure how the health system runs in the U.S. so there are probably some departments you could call also. Good Luck! You may want to see a doctor to find out if you truly have emphysema. He would have to determine if it disables you from work. It's no easy thing to get on disability.
