It is in the normal range during the day. About 135/88 average. maybe a little close to the getting high range but still normal. However when I first get up in the morning it is high. Sometimes very high. This morning it was 161/99. I would have thought that it would be lower when I was resting. It will drop back into the normal range in about 30 minutes. I have severe sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine. Is this normal to have high blood pressure when you get up or is it something I should be worried about. Could it be a indicator that my CPAP is set wrong or something there.

Usually blood pressure is higher in the afternoon, but that isn't always the case. The doctors consider anything around the 130/90 range and higher to be bad. You definitely need to make an appt with your doc if your blood pressure was 161/99. My fiance's blood pressure was 135/99, and his doc wants to put him on medicine.

It may help to keep a diary of what you eat. Check the sodium content of your diet, higher than 200 mg per meal is too much. The lower the sodium, the lower the reading. A sodium restricted diet is difficult, as my fiance and I are discovering, but it works. I urge you to report your readings to your doc asap, just so he is aware of it, and can act. In the meantime, don't add any salt to your food, it'll help.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

Check with your doctor . The 161/99 is very high. There is no set number, but anything around 100 for the bottom number I start worrying about strokes and sending people to the ER.
