You are right, csw, it did not originate from Ireland!

I watched Good Eats on Food TV a few nights ago, and Corned beef was the topic.

The Irish immigrants brought potatoes and cabbage to America and the Jewish added the corned beef!

America - the Irish had salt pork and cabbage, but when many immigrated to America, beef was much more plentiful. The Jewish community actually developed Corned Beef, though.

It came from Ireland.
It was Salt Pork and
Bubble and Squeek.
That's potatoes and
cabbage to non Irish.

That's England baby and after WW2 we all had the recipe. it was easy to prepare and in wartime was a staple in many Welsh homes.
