I can't take anything with a decongestant in it. I've had allergies, sinus infection, and a cough for almost a month. Doctor gave me antibiotics for the sinus infection, but the cough will not stop. I've tried Delsym, supposedly the best on the market, and it hasn't worked. Anyone have any ideas?

Robitussin plain is about the only other good choice. Most cough medicines are not very effective unless they are presciption ones with codiene in them. Get plenty of hard candy to suck on.

Why can't you take a decongestant? You can take a decongestant with the antibiotics, ask your pharmacist.
If it is because you have high blood pressure, or hypothyroidism, you can still take chlortrimaton, it's not as good as sudafed, but it may help a little.
Guiagenasen is the best thing for a productive cough. It doesn't stop you from coughing at all, it makes your cough more productive when you do cough so you don't have to hack and hack to clear your lungs.
You can take Guiafenasen in liquid(Robitussin) or tablet form (MUCINEX), and you can get Guiafenasen with sudafed (MUCINEX D).
However, if your lungs are clear, and you just have a tickle in your throat, I suggest losenges.

To simply suppress a cough (the type that gives that tickling sensation creeping up that won't stop and forces you to cough) codeine is ideal. Codeine can cause stomache upset in some people, but if you haven't any problem with it, that will stop it COMPLETELY for like 4-6 hours. Whether it's prescribed by your doctor in a cough syrup or even if you took a Tylenol with Codeine tablet, it's the best.

I don't think benedryl is a decongestant. I take benedryl or claritin when I have a cough because it will dry up all that stuff thats running down causing you to cough in the first place.

Visit your doctor to get a prescription for a cough medicine with codeine. My doc just gave me one so that I could sleep through the night without coughing constantly.

If you believe in natural remedies, try lemon plus honey. May sound simple, but it works. Check the following site on how to prepare.
