Unless your doctor does a direct admission (so you could bypass the ER) you have to go to the ER and be assessed. You can't just check in.

A doctor needs to admit you to the hospital. If you have chest pain now and think it may be your heart have someone drive you to the hospital or call 911

If you have chest pain, go to the ER. The doctor there can contact your doctor and get you admitted. Don't wait. Don't drive yourself. If you're having chest pain, you should call 911 so they can start treatment in the ambulance. Time is of the esssence when it comes to heart attack, stroke and trauma.

A hospital does not require a doctor's note to treat patients. If you are having chest pain, you should seek immediate attention as this is a possible warning sign. If your doctor is available, contact him by all means. If it is after hours, go to the hospital. Do not wait for you to receive care.

Here's how my hospital works.
Your family physician can call ahead to admit you, then you go rightto admissions.
If you go to ER, and they feel admittance in isorder, they will call your physician, or a specialist who is on call or in the building.
If you don't have a physician, one of their hospitalists will admit you.
Call your dr., at 2AM, you'll get the answering service, he'll take it from there.
However, if the chest pain is very severe, don't s^$( around, get to the ER ASAP,

just go to hospital, dr won't check you unless you have money ,they only care about your money. The only way for them to really listen to your problem is if you have an appointment. "sure, call me anytime" just to sound nice...
