I am helping my brother with his house warming, and I wanted suggestions on what would be good ideas to give his guest.

Well, first of all, if it is your brother's house, it is considered very poor taste to give a housewarming party for yourself. He should not be hosting or organizing the party. It is basically asking all of your guests to come and bring you gifts, similar to a bride throwing her own bridal shower - tacky, tacky, tacky.
Proper etiquette is for a housewarming to be hosted by family, neighbors, or friends of the new homemaker. When tastefully given this way, it is more traditional for the family, neighbors or friends who are organizing the event to provide the food and libations. While your brother should send nice thank-you notes to everyone who participates, especially those who bring housewarming gifts, it is understood that the real thanks is that he should participate in hosting for the participants when it is their turn to move to a new home.
If he just intends to host a party to showcase his new home and is not soliciting gifts, then you should not call it a housewarming party. Just call it an "open house", and make sure the invitations specify "no gifts please." That would make this socially acceptable.

Please look at these sites for the proper etiquette for a house warming. You are getting some erroneous information. If your brother is hosting the party, and requests "no gifts", he need not give his guests anything.
