i am on my second course of antibiotics. first zithromax now avelox. nothing seems to be getting better - the wheezing is still bad and i have shortness of breath. have had to use rescue inhaler. my chest is so tight. and now i have coughed up green crud. i know i probably need a chest xray at this point. anyone ever heard of this type of thing being so resistant? ideas? - killing the doctor is not an option. i have no fever but look and feel dead...wiped out. any docs out there??? and yes i do know a trip to the doctor is indicated. that will happen monday. oh the second round of antibiotics is just for this third time on the pred. the other times i was sick but not this sick and had to be treated twice but i felt alot better by now. we are going on 3 weeks

killing the doctor is not and option-hehehe..i like that one....
ok i am a doctor and this advise is general and may be of benefit...
1.u may have chronic bronchitis..but u need productive sputa for 3months in 2 consecutive yrs...does that apply to u...
2.a cxr will be a good idea just to visualise the lung fields and check for complications or resolution of disease.
3.wheezing and a tight chest may be asthma or not...once your symptoms have resolved(i am hopeful) then see a pulmonologist for a lung fuction test...good idea...
4.get your sputa tested...send it for mcs/afb/cytology...that should cover infections/tb and cancers...u never know till u test
5.chest physio will help loosen phelgm and coughing out those green chunks will make u feel better, less tight and breath easy...inhaled saline nebs will help pre chest physio...oral mucus thinning syrups are neither here nor there...collect that sputa u expectorate for the lab, better if u do this early in the morning then u will u get a prelim report from them by late afternoon...and as an aside-if the physio is a tall blonde hottie all that chest banging will be fun for u(hehehe)...ok serious doctor face......
6.once your course of antibiotics and prednisone is completed then see a physician for a full medical review..no need to suffer and be in the dark about your lung pathology....

now go out and hung a doctor...we need it!!!! take care.

A lot of times, doctors prescribe the cheaper antibiotics first to see if they work because insurance companies dictate what they can use. A lot of plans have what they call 2-3 tier plans. So maybe te bug you have is not sensitive to the ones you've already tried or you could indeed have untreated asthma going on behind the scenes. Prednisone is a common thing they uses regardless if you have asthma or not. Maybe you need an inhaler too and also another opinion. I have asthma and when I get bronchitis it can be a lot worse for me because of the asthma. The bronchi in your lungs are more constricted and therefor it's harder to breath and cough up the yucky green stuff. I am not a doctor but I did work in family practice for years. Did you have chest xrays done? You might want to suggest to the foolish doctor that's not helping you. My daughter has severe asthma and went through some pretty bad experiences and finally ended up in the hospital. there are so many things out there that can cause your sx's including TB. Take care of yourself and at least get another opinion. People tend to put a lot of faith into doctors. You have to be your own advocate now a days!

I once suffered from Chronic Bronchitis. I would suffer sometimes 3 to 4 times per year! Usually when there was a major change in the pressure outside (I live in the north, and the temperature spikes and dips do wonders to chronic sufferers of bronchitis!). Each time I would get horrible hacking coughs, hoarking up green phlegm..it was so frustrating!

The key to getting rid of your bronchitis is to find a way to completely eliminate the germs that are causing all the phlegm and irritation leading to your hoarking cough and heavy breathing. Keep reading to learn how to do kill these germs!!

This page it will change your life and make you feel 100% better within just 24 hours!

Zithromax and avelox are the same basic chemical, I had a "side effects" with both of them.

"Maybe" you don't have the flu, "maybe" you have asthma

"Maybe" you need a second opinion

Have you tried a mucus killer like mucinex? that will break that crap up in your lungs and get it out. My mom has copd (her lungs are working only at 30 % ) she takes the mucinex everyday to keep from getting pneumonia again, and when she did have it, the mucinex helped clear it out. Also make sure to run that humidifier, and air cleaners if you have them.
