I would say enroll in a pulmonary rehab program. With COPD (Emphysema/chronic bronchitis) your lungs are trapping the air you need to get out and preventing the good air from coming in. With emphysema, the little air you can get in doesn't cross over to the blood steam very well.

Any exercise will be good for you. Walking several times a week would be enough. However, you need to be taught how to breath correctly. People do not breath efficiently in the first place, and if you lungs are damaged, you really need to switch. Breathing exercises are a must with COPD

Ask you doctor about a local pulmonary rehab program. Medicare and most insurances will help fund these programs.

Below are some links for you to research.

Check with your local hosp. Many have a cardio/pulmanory rehab unit.

I work out 2 times a week, They claim if you excercise 2 to 4 hours a week, you have a 87% chance of staying out of the hospital

I use an arm crank, treadmill, weights and a rower

Use of a machine to deliver medication in a mist and exercise the lungs at the same time is helpful.

You need to exercise your lungs. Try blowing up balloons.
