Often people do have to take high blood pressure medication forever. Sometimes, though, if people start eating well and exercising, they can get their blood pressure low enough to either reduce or stop completely.
That generally means reducing caffeine and alcohol, stopping smoking, eating a lot of vegetables, fruit, low-fat meats, and whole grains, and exercising (particularly cardio) daily.
But, sometimes people's genetics are such that even with a perfect diet and lifestyle, they still need blood pressure pills to keep their blood pressure to a safe level.
That said, you haven't been on the pills for even six months yet. You should expect that, even in the best case scenario where you make 100% healthy lifestyle choices, you'll be taking meds for another year or two.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

Maybe if you lose some weight, start exercising and eliminate sodium from your diet. Sometimes is doesn't matter what you do, your BP will still be high. Even the skinniest people can have high BP. Taking your medication is important because High BP is called the silent killer. It can cause a stroke which could lead to death or could cause paralysis on either side of your body and creat problems speaking and swallowing. I'll take my medication over that any day.

Check with your doctor about lowering your cholesterol levels and exercising. You will then need to check back with him after you get this under control. Never stop taking your meds that the doctor gave you without his approval. It could cause you to have a stroke or heart attack.
