I am trying to find answers to my problem.I had asthma 3 years ago but only mlildly so i very rarely needed an inhaler.before christmas i had pnuemonia/pluerisy.After lots of antibiotics/steriods and inhalers the doctor said the infection has now gone.My question is why everytime i finish steriod tablets to help me breathe that my breathing goes terrible again. My doctor said i have been left with a tightness in my breathing which is taking a long time to settle down. What does this mean.He is ending me to see a specialist.I did the test where you blow into a tube and the results went to 150 dont know how bad that is.Could pnuemonia have left me with weakened lung. Please help its all driving me mad.

Having had double pneumonia in 85 percent of my lungs and I didnt go to the hospital until I was spitting up blood, I can relate- I was on oxygen for MONTHS afterwards and steroids and the breathing treatments- I still need CAT scans because of nodules which are residual from the pneumonia. See the specialist- make a list of ALL your questions - like the pros and cons of steroids- and antibiotics-- how long is long enough to take them- when should I start feeling better- do you have a spirometer at home that helps you increase your breathing capacity-similar to the test you did in the hospital? if not, why didnt they give you one after your bout with pneumonia- that's how I got it by the way, I had nasal surgery in january- one month later I would have died if I didn't go to that ER that night- gods truth-doc told me, my lungs were a mess and constantly spitting up blood...so get the spiromotry or whatever mechanism they can give you that you can use to increase your breathing capacity while at home-and use it faithfully every so many hours and try as hard as you can-- you will eventually increase your lung capacity- start walking outside if the weather is not too warm or cold or damp or walk the malls-- increasing your distance daily--- it's something you have to walk out of your system.........good luck to you....ps don't know about the 150, dont remember the numbers but ASK YOUR DOC, that's what they are getting paid- and don't take a lame answer -- get to the bottom of this and now.

After the pneumonia you could have developed atelactisis which is basically the collapse of the alveoli air sacs in your lungs. Taking the deepest breathes you can at least 4 or 5 times every hour can help to reopen them. The steroid tablets help reduce inflammation in your lungs and when you stop taking them you lose the anti inflammatory benefits. Your lungs would be irritated and constricted from all that they have been through. As for the 150 I assume that was a peak flow meter reading....If you are having no asthms symptoms.. it should be around 500. If it was me I would go to the specialist. Hope you get feeling better soon.

Are you a habitual smoker with chronic asthma?
Do not smoke any more, make up you mind to quit and thats the stronger gift you have. Stick with your physician or a pulmonologist in your area. You may have to stay on a maintainence of respiratory medications/allergies preventative workup if available where you live. Stay away from people around you with colds and especially the Flu. That is real bad for you. Eat healthy foods and fluids, get enough sleep.

Relax and try not to be frustrated or worry continue to see doc and the specialist. Perhaps it is allergies might be another possibility and it could be anxiety. Hang in there I have problems as well and had various tests and used the inhalers. Was considering getting some breathing treatments.

I know how you feel, we will be okay the force is with us.
