Tex-Mex is a term used to describe American foods created by or influenced by Mexican-Americans or cuisines found in Mexico, particularly cuisines from the Southwestern United States. A given Tex-Mex food may or may not be similar to foods found in Mexico, although it is common for all of these foods to be referred to (erroneously) as Mexican food in the United States and in some other countries.

The ingredients used are common in Mexican cuisine, although ingredients unknown in Mexico are often added. Tex-Mex cuisine is characterized by its heavy use of meat (particularly beef), beans, and spices in addition to Mexican-style tortillas, maize or flour, fried or baked (most traditional Mexican cuisine is not so heavily starch-based as Tex-Mex). Nachos, crispy tacos, crispy chalupas, chili con queso, chili con carne, chili gravy, and fajitas are all Tex-Mex inventions. Serving tortilla chips and a hot sauce or salsa as an appetizer is also an original Tex-Mex combination. Moreover, Tex-Mex has imported flavors from other spicy cuisines, such as the use of cumin (common in Indian food), but used in only a few authentic Mexican recipes.

I 2d ignoring the quickly meals remark. No disrespect, it particularly is in simple terms that, it has no longer something to do with "quickly meals," interior the final information of "quickly meals." To enhance upon previous solutions. maximum tex-mex makes use of cheese such as you could discover on the food market: cow-milk cheeses. whether, I comprehend it that goat-milk cheeses are uncomplicated in genuine mexican meals. additionally, in tex-mex you very customarily get tortillas along with your meal and, they're in many situations flour tortillas, in case you haven't any longer have been given a decision between flour and corn tortillas. interior the interior mexico, flour tortillas are almost non-existant.

having lived in Texas for 34 years and an avid tourist of California (love San Diego especially), I have noted that Cal-Tex uses more fish and vegetables. Perhaps because it is closer to the coast and Californians are more health conscientious?
