my sister had lung problems that would cause alot of phlem build up in her lungs-so part of her treatment was getting pounded on her chest with cupped hands for a half hour on four sections-2 in front and two in back over the lungs..it would help break up the mucus and make it easier to spit up. If you want you could try throwing it up...when my chest gets nasty a coughing fit usually makes me throw it all up- nasty but it feels so much better.try warm liquids and a humidifier

Your bad cough could be whooping cough...it is going around...when you go to catch your breath do you sound like a seal? You inhale and make a whoop sound?

If it's not that, it could be a very irritated windpipe. A steroid puffer will help.

Or it could be that you have asthma. When you get a cold is when the asthma becomes evident (by the cough). USUALLY it is a very rough, wet, and nasty sounding cough. If left unchecked your lungs can shut right down, so if you can't breath get to emergency right away.

You could have asthma and a very dry cough too. Again there are puffers that treat asthma very well and keep it under control and if you have it, you should start your preventative puffer at the first sign of a cold and take it till you are better.

Go see a doctor and let them diagnose it and test you. If you have allergies, you can count on asthma rearing it's ugly head at some point for sure.

For a really sore throat or cough try CEPACOL lozenges or spray. It has this numbing agent in it, but a Ventolin puffer really stops the spasms and if you have a persistant cough and cant sleep because of it see if they'll prescribe it.

If it's a dry, hacky cough (or any kind of cough that's keeping you up all night) you want to look for a product with dextromethorphan in it. (it's a cough suppressant). If it's a productive cough--you're coughing up mucus--you want to take Mucinex or another product with guaifenesin (an expectorant--makes you cough) in it. If it's been bothering you for more than a week, you should go to the doctor though!

Have some cough syrup, cough drops, and take a wash cloth, soak it in warm water, squeeze out water and put in the microwave for 50 seconds. Lay down and drape lightly over your neck. It will relax it and help sooth.

Lot's of things
-drink hot water with lemon and honey ( boiled)
- of course cough syrup, or cough candies
-cayanne pepper, add a bit to a dish or drink
-Chew gum even
- steam bath, or steam face
- But don't go to work or school because you don't want to spread it or get worse!

I have a chronic bronchitis and I only take Vi-ks Formula Forty-four every 4 hours and it lasted me for just 3 days and a combination of a back massage and foot massage before going to sleep.

If phlegm/mucus is the problem, I'd recommend Mucinex or something that has the ingredient guaifenesin. You can also buy guaifenesin at a health-food store. It loosens up the junk so your coughs actually do what they're supposed to: get the phlegm out.

I had that a couple of days ago, i hated it so much. I took Theraflu, it tastes good actually. You can purchase it at any store or drugstore. Also, drink fresh orange juice and eat lots of apples and fruits. It'll go away in a couple of days im sure

Cough syrup with codeine. You need a prescription for it though. It works great.
