Seafood is good for you. Seafood is great for developing babies. The fatty acids found in seafood (Omega-3 fatty acids) are pretty much a requirement for growing babies. And we generally don’t get enough of them in our diet. A new study in the British journal Lancet found, after analyzing data from approximately 9,000 British mothers and their children over an eight-year period, that pregnant women who ate less than 12 ounces of seafood a week did not protect their children from adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes. Limiting seafood during pregnancy can actually be a detriment to the developing baby. The study found that limiting seafood actually increased the child’s risk of poor verbal IQ development compared with mothers who ate more than 12 ounces of seafood per week. Those children were also at greater risk of poor social development and poor motor control. Not getting enough of the proper nutrients is obviously quite a detriment to a developing child.

If it is good for pregnant women and the babies they carry, then it must be good for children too!

Just make sure that sushi preparation is healthy.

If you are at a reputable sushi place (and you should be), it should be fine. My wife & I love sushi. We take our 2 and 4year olds with us when we go. They have both tried it & really don't want it yet. We've exposed them to all different types of food. The only two things I'd caution you against are 1) if you get bad sushi, it's much more serious on kids than you. Their immune systems aren't as well developed. 2) In this day & age, mercury levels are an issue. Salmon is common as sushi & it's at least one of the many fish that can have mercury contamination. These levels build up in animals exposed to them. Then, it in turn builds up in animals that eat those animals (like us). So, be aware of that, too.

Sure. Have your children chow them down. Sushi is good for them. I see kids 6-8 years old with their parents all the time at my favorite sushi bar ;)

sushi is good to eat and i see no problem with giving it to kids to eat, however do your home work on where you are buying you sushi from, make sure it is fresh. very fresh sushi is the only good sushi and is very expsive. If sushi isn't prepared fast and very fresh it can be unhealthy and not taste good. i would first try them on californal rolls.

Japanese children eat it and apparently it is good for them - fish is healthy anyway. So the question, is "do children like sushi"?

sushi is good for children to eat because there are different kinds of them and they are really good, it just has to depend on if they have any food they can't eat

Raw fish is no longer safe for anyone anymore. Before our waters were polluted and all the different types of bacteria started to emerge sushi was not harmful. Now I wouldn't recomend consuming it unless it was a vegetarian type (california roll) or the fish was cooked.

i would say vegetarian sushi is alright, but the raw stuff might not be good for young kids. I'm a big fan of avocado sushi, so give that a whirl perhaps!

Children need to avoid fish such as tuna that has a high mercury content. It can effect cognition.
