My daughter has been dealing with HIGH blood sugar for the past 4 months. Her blood sugar will often rise to over 230+ after meals. Her numbers do return to normal within 2-4 hours. She is 4 yrs. old and underweight. She will see a ped endo in 2 weeks.

Today we checked her fasting bg and it was 43! A small breakfast and 15 min. after eating, she had risen to 152.

Is there reason to be concerned about this LOW number? What is the significance of this hypoglycemia AND hyperglycemia?

Has she been tested for diabetes? You get both highs and lows with that.

You should be very concerned about the low numbers. Below 50 can cause all kinds of trouble including mood changes, confusion, fatigue, hunger and sweating. Lower that can cause seizures or coma and even death.

You didn't mention if your daughter is diabetic though I suspect she is because you posted the question here. You also didn't mention if she uses insulin, which can be a huge factor in all this (I am on insulin and experiencing some fluctuations also. I was 49 two nights ago...) Until you see the doctor, be much more concerned about the low numbers than the high ones. The highs are not good either, but the lows can be deadly.

I wish you all the best, and I am so sorry your little girl has to go through this... It's hard enough to deal with this when you are an adult. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

It seems your daughter has completely lost the ability to regulate her blood sugar. I'm including the following for the cinnamon information, and for the video. If there's something else that helps, use it, too, and God bless you and your daughter.

I realize that conventional health care is necessary and appropriate. That having been said, there are also many things WE can do to overcome type II diabetes, and improve life as a Type I diabetic. I've been researching alternative medicine, and the amount of help that's available to diabetics is amazing.

Natural remedies are quite effective, and include:

Cinnamon
Bitter Melon
Gymnema Sylvestre
Nopal cactus
American Ginseng
Fenugreek
Chromium picolinate

Cinnamon regulates glucose, and has a polyphenol compound called MHCP that mimics insulin and activates cell receptor sites. A quarter teaspoon twice daily makes a difference. Fenugreek increases blood flow and inhibits the growth of infectious organisms. Everything on the list has a use in fighting diabetes. Learn how to use these herbs and don't fall victim to diabetes needlessly. You can find out about about them on line, or in a book I read cover to cover--

"One Son's Quest for the Cause and Cure of Diabetes", ISBN 7890766313

The author, a doctor, lost his mother to diabetes and spent the next 20 years finding a way to overcome it. My brother was dying of diabetes, and I was just starting to need insulin when we came across this definitive work which came out in February 2005. We both lead mostly normal lives now. It's a life saver, and the best money you'll ever spend on the subject if you decide to go that way.
You might want to check Abe Books, Alibri's, or Amazon.com for a good used copy cheap. I bought mine new, and I think it was about $35. I don't get any money from anybody for telling you this--just want to help, and the techniques in this book is what made the difference for me and mine. Best of luck.

Just recently found this 8-minute non-profit video http://www.rawfor30days.com/view.html , about diabetes diet. Click on the link, then click 'View Windows Media' to watch it.You'll be glad you saw it.

High blood levels of glucose can cause several problems, including frequent urination, excessive thirst, hunger, fatigue, weight loss, and blurry vision. However, because type 2 diabetes develops slowly, some people with high blood sugar experience no symptoms at all. How to treat diabetes naturally https://tr.im/IClGp

Symptoms of type 1 diabetes:

Increased thirst
Increased urination
Weight loss in spite of increased appetite
Fatigue
Nausea
Vomiting

Patients with type 1 diabetes usually develop symptoms over a short period of time, and the condition is often diagnosed in an emergency setting.

Symptoms of type 2 diabetes:

Increased thirst
Increased urination
Increased appetite
Fatigue
Blurred vision
Slow-healing infections
Impotence in men

If you think you have diabetes i think you should have a checkup and speak with your doctor just in case.

carbohydrates as well as sugary foods put the blood sugar up so if the small breakfast was high in carbs, this could explain the large increase. apparantly french bread makes the blood sugar rise quickly which is good for someone in a hypo state.
not much help i know.
