if you never got any infections you would never know they were there, protection you from the outside world,...what we do as humans is we overwhelm them by our lifestyle.

Tonsils are a very important part of the immune system. I wouldn't be here to answer this if I'd had mine out before getting a very serious infection as a child.
As for the appendix, it has long been thought it had no purpose but some people think there may be a purpose that hasn't been discovered yet - the thing that makes them think this is the fact that the appendix apparently has a very good blood supply.

Tonsils are there for a reason. They stop more germs from entering into your body. As for an appendix, i have no idea, let me know when you do.

I think the appendix does have a purpose. I believe that all carrots you eat are stored there, ready to emerge when you need to vomit. Well, how else do you explain that when you are sick there is always carrots in it, no matter how long it has been since you ate any!

We needed them at one point in our time on earth (the human race as a whole I mean)

Evolution will probably stop them from forming in newborns over time (thousands of years).

I had my appendix out when I was 11. If I hadn`t, I would have got septicaemia as it was about to burst.

They work to filter out bacteria mostly. They only cause a problem when they've been overworked.
