My experience is as follows: (Type II?)

It is extremely hard to diet, but I have found a system that works for me.
Three meals a day, a little snack perhaps, ice cream or candy at 2:30-3:30.
Breakfast, toast with or without banana, jam. coffee with milk no sugar.
lunch as needed -- don't overeat, don't undereat.
Supper -- here is the clincher - if at all possible around 16:10 - 16:30 Under no circumstances later than 18:00
After 18:00 only black coffee, no food, no snacks

Exercise 8,000 steps to 20,000 every day! Walk with a dog, it's more fun.

My sugar reading went from 220 - 240 down to 120 - 140 in the morning. In two years I have lost 20 some pounds.

My last cup of black coffee is around 11 PM. Black coffee seems to help me with the food craving in the evening!?

Sometimes, I blow it once or twice a week? Restaurant, cake and such. try not to do it too late at night.

I am not taking any medicine period. maybe I should.

When I had began this system, I had high readings, so once a week on Monday I fasted - no food only water. Next day the reading was good. It was difficult though.

talk to me if you need.

Have you seen a dietician? They should put you on the diabetic diet. Actually, you feel full all the time on it because you feel like you're eating all the time. By spreading the food out over the course of the day, it will keep your blood sugar from spiking, and it will keep your body from going into starvation mode, so it will keep processing the food.

The diabetic diet is basically eating the old food pyramid. Get a good calorie counter, which also gives fat and carbohydrate counts, and use it to determine what portions are right for these. My dietician gave me the following diet:

Breakfast: 2 carbohydrate servings (15 carbohydrates in each serving--each about 1/2-3/4 cup of cereal or 1 slice of bread)
One fruit (1 piece for most, 2 apricots, 17 grapes, or 1/2-2/3 cup of juice)

1 milk (8 oz. of either low-fat milk or yogurt

Mid-Morning Snack: 1 fruit

Lunch: 3 oz. meat (about the size of a deck of cards)
2 vegetables (1/2 cup cooked or 1 cup raw each)
2 carbohydrates
1 fat (6 grams--about a pat of butter or a tablespoon of salad dressing)
(a deli sandwich and salad with dressing just fits the bill)

Mid-Afternoon Snack: 1 fruit and 1 milk

Supper: 4 oz. of meat (about the size of the palm of your hand)
2 carbohydrates
2 vegetables
2 fats

Bed-Time Snack: 1 carbohydrate, 1 milk (the Weight Watchers dessert bars work great here)

I'm usually so full I forget to eat the snacks, but they're important.

The brutal fact is, nothing about diabetes is easy. If it was, I'd have been doing it the easy way for the past fifteen years - the length of time I've had it.

The key to losing weight is exercise. NOTHING else will do it -not diet, not special exercise, and absolutely NO "alternative" medicine!

You have to exercise at least 45 minutes every day - exercise hard enough to break a sweat. That could be done in 45 minutes of hard walking - no stops to chat, no stops to pet the dog, no stops to smell the roses: walk as if your life depended on it - because your life DOES depend on it!

You can also swim - but that does not allow for splashing around and being silly, it means getting in the pool and swimming laps, one after another. Swim hard, until you have to stop and catch your breath - but do not do that more than three times in half an hour. You are there to work to save your life, not to play!

Running? Sure - IF you keep at it. Two miles a day, every day, no stopping during the run. Bicycling? Sure - IF you actually get out and ride, not pedal lazily down to the corner and back. TWELVE miles, up hill and down, non-stop! Or six miles out, stop and cool down for fifteen minutes, then six miles back. You may have to work up to that much riding, but that "working my way up" should require no more than three months at the most!

I said in the beginning it isn't easy. Diabetes is a killer disease, and unless you fight hard to control it, it WILL kill YOU! The choice is yours - fight or rot away!

Acid-Alkaline diets will be able to help you control your sugar level as well as your fats.

Fats are nothing more than stored acid. By taking alkaline food, you prevent the intake of acid to create more fats.

Read the book "pH miracle for weight loss". See photos of people losing weight at ease. If you want to loose weight super fast, there is an alkaline liquid diet. According the book, people are loosing 10 pounds or more within the first 8 days. Go to the website below to see which food (and even fruits) that are acidic.

There is also another book "pH miracle for diabetes". I have a friend that control his sugar level by taking the supergreens.

Me either, all the docs keep saying excercise, that must be the answer. Even though you feel like crap, when you don't feel so bad try it a bit at a time. Diets don't work either. Just excercise otherwise it will catch up to you, I found out and now I am trying to get fit.

Dlife, which is a web site dedicated to diabetics and their needs is a great place to go. The person who developed the site has also worked for many years with diabetes educators to develope a diet especially for diabetics. You might want to go there and check it out. It costs but if you are serious about weight loss, then it is worth it.
