how about make your own crepes?
it's really easy, you can have a lot of batter made up and either premake them (less than 1 min each) or the kids can make them themselves, either way, put out a lot of toppings (lemons, sugar, Nutella, jam, etc.) on a table and the kids will have fun picking out which ones to choose!

here's a recipe: *increase quantity as needed this makes about 24-30 crepes
INGREDIENTS

* 3 cups all-purpose flour
* 3 eggs
* 3 cups milk
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 2 tablespoons butter, melted

DIRECTIONS

1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and the eggs. Gradually add in the milk and water, stirring to combine. Add the salt and butter; beat until smooth.
2. Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each crepe. Tilt the pan with a circular motion so that the batter coats the surface evenly.
3. Cook the crepe for about 2 minutes, until the bottom is light brown. Loosen with a spatula, turn and cook the other side. Serve hot

do red white and blue French tablecloths and the kids seem a little old for organized games so the crepes should be fine

give away little Eiffel Tower/baguette souvenir magnets

you can even get them personalized

How about a French Braids Party! Take them all to a fun salon and have a girlie afternoon getting professional braids done like the girls do for prom and such.

Isn't there a cartoon character that's from a French story . . . Madeline the Orphan or something. I remember it from when I was little. I think there was a Madeline movie made a couple years ago, too. Maybe you can get ideas from that.

Otherwise, French Fries, French Toast, French restaurants ...

"Have a hallway of closed doors (i.e. bedrooms leading to the bathroom, or storage rooms not being used)? This is really neat. Buy some white PVC piping at your local discount home supply store. Have them cut the piping (or do it yourself) tall enough to fit INSIDE the door jams when the doors are closed (about 4-5 for each door). Spray paint the pipes a flat black. For an added touch, use some acrylic paint (rusts, beiges, browns) and smear it across the pipes to age them. Prop these poles up in the door jams and VOILA! You have a dungeon! For a touch that will have everyone talking, in a couple of the rooms, have a continuous tape playing by the door of voices from the prisoners. They could be calling to the jailer for food, arguing with other inmates, or merely pleading for freedom. HINT: You don' t need hours of original dialogue for this, only about a minute or two &then copy the segment over and over. If you are especially clever, you can write a short script that would end up where it began so that your cuts are seamless."

Are you talking Montreal French or France French?

Have an Eiffel Tower building contest. The kids split up into pairs or teams and are given a set amount of straws & tape (ie: 25 straws & 2ft of masking tape)

Then they are given say, the next half hour to build a free-standing “Eiffel” tower.

And make poutine cuz it's super yummy.

Have name tags or place cards with their names in french for them to wear (Peter would be Pierre).

What about French-themed Cirque du Soleil party. Should be pretty easy, use bright colors but instead of all the circus animals use brightly colored netting and shiny fabric, and drape everything, use hula hoops and add ribbons, they will even play with them or use them for a game, and if you sew you can reuse the fabric for Halloween customs.

Food would be really easy too, pigs in blankets, croissants with chicken or ham salad, and for cake petite fours.

It would be fun to teach them how to say things like "Hello" and "Happy Birthday" in French. You might be able to pick up berets for all the kids somewhere (if you buy them in bulk, say more than 10, you may get a discount) fairly inexpensively. Most kids love cheese, and cheese and bread are common foods in France. If they're more 14ish than 10ish, you could also do fondue stands. Maybe one with chocolate for fruits/breads, one with cheese for breads. Fondue is really fun and it's kind of do-it-yourself if the kids are old enough to do it without getting burned and making a mess...

Did your kids choose this theme? French is hard for that age.....berets come to mind to wear. This age wants hot dogs, etc....how about hot dogs with French names....maybe dogs like "poodle", and each a different kind...like with cheese, with relish, with chili, etc....put in a tray with chips and put a french name on the dip french onion?.....you can look up the French names and put them on everything....shakes to go with the Hot Dogs?....flags of France...colors of the flag in the streamers, etc. ....but this is a hard theme for the kids to understand.....

So I'll give you an alternate suggestion...my grandkids had a mystery party.....complete with clues in every room....a "victim" which was hillarious ...stuffed clothes with a happy face pillow at the top for the head.....when the kids found it they were in hysterics laughing.....they had to follow the clues around the house.....
So have a French Mystery? You write the play, have parts for the kids who attend, and don't tell who the criminal is...they have to figure it out.....

Other ideas...French Fries, French Toast, French Dip Sandwiches.....

Have a "Make Your Own Crepe" Stand! Let kids go up in groups of four, and have bowls of bananas, strawberries, peaches, and blueberries on the table. Also have chocolate syrup, caramel syrup, and whipped cream. Limit one crepe per kid, and only allow them to have 2 spoonfuls of fruit (different or the same), and only allow one topping, so it doesn't become too fattening. This is a fun way to entertain them, and give them a snack!
