Canker sores are INSIDE the mouth...mouth ulcerations linked to several things

1. streptococcus sanguis (see last source), some people take tetracycline for it (see second source)

2. crunchy or spicy or acidy foods
(ie pickles, vinegar, soda pop, tomatoes, orange juice, lemon juice, etc., italian bread (crunchy food) . Lay off the acidy and spicy foods awhile and see if that helps. One source recommends a mouth swish of equal amounts of milk of magnesia and benadryl liquid (see the next to last source)...see the first source for other swishes..

3.injury to cheek or gums or tongue (ie hard toothbrush, crunchy food, biting yourself by accident inside the mouth)

4. sodium laurel sulfate in toothpaste
(there is a toothpaste named Squigle that doesn't have it in there)

5.it is linked to families (genetic)

6.dietary deficiencies, such as low B12 and low iron

7.stress

8. allergies (food or drug)

9. menstrual periods or premenstrual syndrome (according to last 2 sources)

Cold Sores are found around the outside of the mouth and are linked to a type of herpes virus, that comes and goes with stress...acyclovir (zovirax) might help with those

No canker sores are not a form of herpes.

I'm a nurse. No canker sores are triggered by stress only, not herpes. Don't worry these are more common in many people. Try hard to relax, things will get better, believe that. I use to suffer from them myself years ago. You will be OK, it's not herpes. Take care.

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy.

No, canker sores are not caused by the herpes virus.

" Canker sores differ from cold sores in that they occur on the internal soft tissues of your mouth and aren't contagious. Conversely, cold sores almost always start out on the lips and don't often spread to the soft tissues of your mouth. In addition, cold sores are caused by a form of the herpes virus, making them extremely contagious."

Yes, unfortunately a canker sore is a herpes virus. There are different forms of herpes virus. A canker sore is a virus. I would suggest going to a herbal practitioner for a remedy. I would not go to a regular doctor because all they will give you is crazy medication that may give you other symptoms and tell you that you cant get rid of it.

I would also not date the new boyfriend anymore.

No, that's cold sores and those are on the outside of your mouth. Canker sores are caused when you bite the inside of your mouth, or accidently stab your mouth with a fork. Bacteria will get into the bite and it becomes infected. People with diabetes that is not well controlled get them a lot. The best thing to do is to put orajel on them to deaden the pain, and to rinse your mouth with peroxide 2-3 times a day...whenever you brush your teeth. I have done this for several months now and never get canker sores anymore.
