I am a vegetarian, but I am craving a good ol' American hot dog with mustard sooo badly! I can't find any veggie dogs that taste good! I love Morning Star products, but their veggie dogs were awful, so were "Smart Dogs". Can anyone give me the Brand name of some veggie dogs that taste good and cook up in texture like the real thing? I am getting desperate and am afraid I will give in and eat a real hot dog!! HELP!!!

BEN DOVER: I wil never have "balls" because I am a female. If you want to put your "meat" in a man's mouth, please post in the "gay and lesbian" section.

The funny thing is, I had a pack of Yves brand, but after all the bad experiences, I just naver ate any of them and threw them away. I guess I should try again!

Go to a health food store in your area, they will be able to help you and maybe even point you in the direction of a vegetarian restaurant.

I have tried so many different brands over the years, and I've never come across a veggie dog that comes near as good as those from the Australian brand "Sanitarium". The product is specifically called "Vegie Delights Classic Hot Dogs". They also have a variety of other excellent products, many of which are certified vegan and/or organic and/or artificial ingredient free.

good luck satisfying your craving in a meat free way.

This company Vegefarm makes pretty good ones

I think I've had one or two other brands (yves and smart dogs I think), but this one is very good. They make a ton of other vege products that are good also (see the other items on the site). Usually I only see these in Asian markets like 99 Ranch Market. If you can find these I think you will like them.

Usually the Morningstar ones fool meat eaters! Did you nuke them or boil them? I'd guess nuke since those two are normally considered first rate. It makes a huge difference and the microwave just isn't kind to them. You might find that you prefer the Worthington frozen Leanies or their canned Super-links. In either case boil them and don't use the juice with the canned ones. The reason I mentioned those two particular Worthington products is that they have dramatically different flavor and texture profiles from the two you don't like (which are similar products IMO).

When you get tempted to eat a real dead stuff wiener just remember that those are made with bone scrapings and all the leftover YUCK that they needed to get rid of.

Morningstar farms are the best I have tried. Lifelife smart dogs are OK too. I really suggest just tossing one into a hot pan that's been sprayed with non-stick spray or a little oil to coat. Microwaving makes them rubbery.

I don't know if you ever would find one that is just like a regular hot dog in texture as the texture of a hot dog is that of grisel and offal and animal fat.

I really like sanitarium veg-dogs in Australia, but they do not have the texture of a regular hot dog... and if they did, i would not eat them cause they would be gross!
