I recently pull a muscle in my leg and remembered that my grandpa used to swear by Epson salt soaks as a remedy for sore muscles. When I bought the box I noticed that it has a warning on the side that people with diabetes should not use it without consulting a physician. Why is it dangerous for diabetics?

with diabetes, you have peripheral neuropathy, meaning that your nerves in your arms and legs dont work as well as they should, and it is harder for you to recognize when you have cuts or abrasion or smth worse and now with the addition of epsom salt, its too caustic and increases your chances for infection.

It's the hot water that you put the salts in. If a diabetic has neuropathy, they can have a hard time distinguishing when the water is too hot, therefore causing burns to your skin.

As long as you can tell when the water is too hot epsom salts should be fine. I've used that method before and it worked great.

Your local pharmacy should have these in stock, if not ask them to order them in for you. If you intend to use quite a lot, ask the pharmacy to order the larger size available as they come in quite a few pack sizes.
