1. Red Carpet Party/ Oscar - Welcome ppl as they come in (home or resturant)… sit down dinner @ round tables … Karaoke machine to entertain them ... Have them pretend they're accepting awards, singing, joke telling. On invitation, tell them to get a talent (sing, dance, joke) and give actual awards.

2. Goto horse ranch (there's usually quite a few in mnts) - have a hoedown - hay rides, horseback ridding on trails, square dancing, and lunch.

3. Cave-man party.

4. 1950's Party: Poodle Skirts.

5. Organize hiking - pre-pair picnik.

6. Ugly Betty Party: Have them all dress like "Ugly Betty".

What time of year? My sister had a party for her step daughter, also 12, and it was a Hawaiian theme. They swam (it was a little tough to supervise the pre-teens in the pool), ate hot dogs, listened to music, etc. She got all the decorations at a party store pretty cheap. The kids had a great time.

Take them to an ice-skating rink. Or a regular skating rink. Both are fun. Kids that age really like it. Both genders, too. Good for any time of year.
