I have asthma. Usually around times when I have frequent asthma symptoms I get abnormally tired. Mostly, I would be be able to do my regular chores and then afterward fall out sleeping as early as 8:00 PM in the evening and wake up after a good eight or nine hours of sleep. However, sometimes I am so tired I can't do anything else but sleep, up to 18 hours in one day!! During those times I don't even have the energy to eat.

I've talked to my doctor about this. He says it's rare but possible. Am I the only one who has this asthma symptom? If you have asthma or know anyone who does please let me know.

Thanks!

It makes sense if you think about it... having asthma symptoms lowers the oxygen concentration in your blood. You body needs oxygen to operate. If you're low on oxygen you have less energy and you're using all your strength just to breathe. But if your asthma is this severe you need a better treatment plan and a new doctor - look for a pulmonary specialist, not just a regular doctor.

My oldest daughter has asthma and yes she does experience this. But usually it only occurs if her blood oxygen levels are way down from an infection and the asthma together. Has your doctor checked you for this? Has he checked to see if your medications can cause this side affect? If you feel you are not getting helped with your condition please consider seeing someone else. Having a good doctor when you have asthma is essential for managing the condition. Also we went on line and found that certain things can aggrivate the condition of asthma worse than we thought, like ingredients in certain potatoe chips, dust from her stuffed animals and so on. Look into this and dont stop until you are comfortable with how you are being cared for by your doctor. I know it is hard when you are young, but push for help form your parents and family. They can help speak for you and help your doctor listen. The web is a great place to do research first and then go back to your doctor with questions.

well, when you are experiencing asthma symptoms your body is spending more of it energy to breath, so really, it makes perfect sense that you feel fatigued. I do not think it is as rare as your doctor says, I feel the same and many ppl I know who have asthma also suffer from fatigue.

I know someone like these, two actually. It's got a little to do with your mind also. Both suffered from their childhood itself. One is now a doctor, he studied with me.

Keep thinking you're ok...

If you snore at night, that could be another problem that could cause you to be tired and sleepy like this.

yes, of course. when a person can't breath well. the body will work extra hard in compensating. also the lack of oxygen will do that to you.
