I mean, it doesn't kill the sheep, the wool that's shorn regrows, and everybody's happy. Someone explain what I'm missing.

A) I wouldn't put this in a gaming section, since I don't give a rat's **** about the game, and

B) I assumed most vegetarians and vegans don't just disapprove of eating animal products, but also using them. It's a perfectly valid question for this section.

I read that SOME australian farmers use this practise to rid their herds of a type of parasite but not all do and most sheep farmers who shear their sheep are quite humane. I just think wool would be a good alternative to things like leather or fur where the animal is killed in order to get the end product. Wouldn't we want to encourage this type of thinking?

Orbis Non Sufficit, I think your abuse meter must be set to Violent Cranial Explosion instead of Common Sense. I haven't abused anything, I just asked a valid question to people who might have a valid answer.

Hey Lisa C, why does the colour of the wool make a difference?

Great question! I'm so glad you asked. There are people who are kind to their sheep, but it's usually all about making money. Too much abuse goes on. Sheep still get cut, even mutilated when they shave them too quickly or they move. They can even lose their ears. They aren't given painkillers and get sent off in horrible conditions to be slaughtered. It's sad. I emailed Orbis Non Sufficit trying to stick up for you and he was REALLY mean, even to me. He made no sense at all either. This category is a great place because we care about animals. Lisa P. is referring to your ID. *******Go to www.save the sheep.com to read all about sheep shearing.

Actually, this was a proverbial "hot button" issue in 2004. PETA was protesting the use of wool in clothing lines that are carried at Benetton, and others. They use wool from Australia. Apparently there are some seriously vile practices going on there with the shearing of sheep. Even the musician Pink has taken a stand against wool.
Checking with the PETA website, it is still an issue today. If you are interested in all of the details, check out their website. www.peta.org

I luv that game!

Sheep go through horrible torture for their wool, and in Austalia, cases have come up where the factory "farmers" use the razor blade and purposefully cut the sheep so that they bleed a lot.

Now these days they kill sheep for wool. They don't do the traditional shaving.
