Aunt Frieda used to make something she called "kleuten" sp?? They were kind of chewy dumplings that she put on top of stew or soup. I know they had flour and egg in them but I don't know what else. Can't find them in any German cookbook. Can anyone help?

Sorry, I don't know if these are what you want, or not, but might be worth a try:

Anna's German Dumplings
"These homemade family recipe dumplings are wonderful in any type of soup, chicken or otherwise. Grandma made the best. She never measured anything until one day a long time ago, I measured everything as she did it."

Original recipe yield:
12 servings

PREP TIME 15 Min
COOK TIME 20 Min
READY IN 1 Hr 35 Min

INGREDIENTS
3/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cold water
1 cup all-purpose flour
3 eggs, beaten
1 cup all-purpose flour
DIRECTIONS
Place the milk and salt in a saucepan, and set over medium heat. In a small bowl, mix together 1 1/2 tablespoons of flour and water. When the milk begins to bubble, stir in the flour mixture, and cook stirring constantly until thickened, 2 or 3 minutes. Let cool until set. You can put the mixture in the refrigerator to speed the process.
Fold the eggs into the chilled dough. Add 1 cup of flour and mix thoroughly (dough will be lumpy). Drop into simmering soups by the teaspoonful. Simmer covered for 10 minutes, remove lid, and simmer 10 minutes more.

And show complete, blatant disregard for civil liberties they are inherently entitled to? And yes it would be illegal, not to mention there would be riots across the nation before the US was even 1/4 of the way done. Surrendering Civil Rights for State Security is not Freedom nor is is Liberty and should never even be considered. Those who find it acceptable are looking at a different picture, their thoughts aren't misguided because their hearts are in the right place but the methodology is simply wrong. The Patriot Act and Espionage Act are counterproductive to the Ideals that built a Nation. Simply because someone is of a different Nationality doesn't make them any less American, hell, there are some who are even more Patriotic then people who were born in the US.
