Board games sound fun. Do a bunch of finger food.

I like the idea of lots of finger foods - stuffed mushrooms, shrimp, veggie tray, cheese and crackers, etc. My husband and I decided to go more basic because we were inviting families with young kids. We decided on a black bean soup that is served with condiments such as rice, sausage, onions, etc so that each person can make their own soup. We are also getting subs.

I would go with the lady that said the heavy appetizers, buy them at the supermarket and defrost a shrimp ring or smoked salmon ring as well, have a few dips and spreads, crackers or chips, nuts and snacks and there you are, done...some bite size sweets, also courtesy of the supermarket or bakery are nice as well...very little effort on your part and it looks like a million bucks!
have a few low key games and keep it casual, just play it by ear...
If it were me, I wouldn't serve any heavy duty alcohol, just some imported beers or some different kinds of wine...some different ones like some of the Chilean wines or a funky Australian wine or two...The Little Penguin has some nice little wines, very light hearted...
have some low key music, like your Michael Buble, Diana Krall or nothing too heavy and poof! done...

Heavy hors' doevres are usually best for New Year's Eve. Try to have a balance of sweets and savorys. There are many finger foods that can be bought at the supermarket to make things easier. Games can be a lot of fun. Taboo is a good party game.

Most parties start after 8 so I'm guessing that people would have eaten dinner but you still need to have food because people will be having alcohol. I would put out a few appetizers or have another easy hot meal around 10 PM or so. How about a baked ziti casserole, salad and crusty bread?

Here's a few appetizer recipes that I make every year for our big new years party. ENJOY
Ham Roll Ups
Ingredients:
8oz. cream cheese, softened
1 bunch of green onions, chopped
1 envelope of dry ranch dressing mix
2 pkgs. 8-10 inch tortillas
1 lb. of thinly sliced ham
Combine cream cheese, green onions, and dressing mix. Spread 1 tbsp. of cream cheese mixture on a tortilla. Top w/one slice of ham & roll up. Repeat until you are out of tortillas. Make these the night before and then before serving cut into pinwheel appetizers. Makes plenty, I guarantee you will have enough to last to the New Year
Cocktail Franks
Ingredients:
4 pkgs. of cocktail franks
1 bottle of ketchup
1 bottle of beer
1/2 c. brown sugar
Combine all ingredients in crock pot...Cook on low for 4-6 hours. Keep warm by keeping crockpot on low thru out the evening.
Party Meatballs
Ingredients:
2 bags of frozen meatballs
1 bottle of chili sauce
1 jar of grape jelly
Combine all ingredients in crockpot. Cook on low for 6-8 hours.
Have fun, be safe, and Happy New Years!!!!!

Me and my boyfriend are spending our first New years in the house. we're going to be serving finger foods like buffalo wings, shrimp cocktail, deveiled eggs. things like hoagies, or pizza also. nothing big and as for games we're not really into that, we're just playing music and having good conversation with a couple of neighbors

Try loads of finger foods. Little sandwiches or some of the platters with meat and cheese there are lots of combinations. There are even sweet platters. Make a thick and hearty soup. Lots of drinks.

I made some stuffed jumbo shrimp for x-mas and they were fantastic (lots of recipes on line, check out cooks.com). Pictionary is really fun as it gets people involved. I made up my own cards using local landmarks and things familiar to people around here. All you need is an egg timer, markers and some large pieces of paper and some recipe card sized pieces for the words to be drawn out.
