There isn't a traditional British food for new year's day, 1st January, or the day before New Year's Eve (31st Dec) so people will eat whatever they like. Many people will have a party on new year's eve and drink champagne at midnight.
I'm cookiing a special meal for my family for the evening of Dec 31st. We will have smoked salmon starter, chicken for main course and possibly merangue nests with fruit for dessert - but depends on what's left in the supermarket when i go later on.
Happy New Year to you.

I live in the US. But I select a treat food for the celebration rather than using alcohol. This year it is New York steak, grilled and king crab legs, cold w/o butter, a side of bake potato and a slice of homemade light rye sourdough bread (no butter needed)

Looks like I'm celebrating New Year with Swiss-Peruvians. Something hot and spicy. Since I'm cooking it's probably going to be Thai or Indian and not American. Hot spicy prawns!
