Whenever my dad would come do to visit (about every six months) he would suggest places to go to eat. I would tell him I couldn't really eat at those places because I was a vegetarian and I didn't eat meat (he'd be suggesting places that served seafood). He'd say "They don't serve meat, they serve fish." Every time I'd have to tell them that fish was meat (although some vegetarians will eat fish, go figure). I'd say, "If you go to the Meat department in a supermarket, then you're going to find fish there." I'd have to explain this every single time he came for a visit. It wasn't that my dad was trying to be a jerk or was making fun of my being a vegetarian, it's just that he couldn't wrap his head around the whole concept of it, so he'd always forget.
I suggest you stop being so sensitive about people saying negative things about your eating habits or them making a big deal about them. You're being a vegetarian for yourself not them, so what does it matter what they say? And once the novelty of your change in what you eat wears off for them, then they'll probably be more comfortable about it and stop making such a fuss.

It's a very valid rant. I never made a big deal on what others ate, but sure enough they point it out when they eat thier meat!! Saying comments like I can still hear this cow moooooing. I also get the people who invite my family over to eat and they say oh...yeah she does not eat meat...what do we fix?...LOL I am fine with a salad ....I finally just got tired of it and started ignoring all the comments...I have been one since I was 10....I just never liked meat and it's texture.
But it is no one elses business to make a big deal out of it....it's not a disease....geeeeeeeeeeeeeze....

I'm veg for life and get the same questions all of the time.
fish is meat, all sea food is. if you eat sea food you are no vegetarian.
there are many things that vegetarians can eat other than meat.
vegetarianism is my life choice and it is not your job to go around telling people it. it is not like i have three heads.
if you love animals then you cannot eat them!
why do pople call some animals pets and other animals food?
yup i feel the same way as you. :)

Some Omnivores are cool with us not eating meat that is how it should be. Others find it hard to understand . They think we are being veggie/vegan to gain attention or out of some twisted thought process!! I agree with you, WE DON'T WANT to eat Meat EVER.!! It is not a direct attack against omnivores we just don't like eating meat and have our own personal reasons why we don't want to!! Just as you all have your reasons for eating meat!!!

You're just going to have to figure out how to deal with it. I've been vegetarian for almost 2 years and the same people ask me the same questions over and over and over. It is extremely annoying and I find it very rude. I absolutely hate it when I'm in a restaurant and somebody volunteers the fact that I'm a vegetarian. Thanks, now I'm going to have to sit here and justify my life choices while my dinner gets cold. People are just weird and thoughtless.

I've been a vegetarian for 18 years and have never had a problem with being hassled about it. Once in a while people ask me why and whether I miss meet. They are just curious and are not out to belittle me or change my mind.
If someone gets on your nerves, say something like, "Don't worry about what I eat and I won't worry about what you eat, ok?"
Sometimes I say to people who ask if I eat fish, chicken, etc., I'll say, "Let's put it this way, I don't eat anything that once lived and breathed." I do consume dairy products and just added back eggs in the past 3 months.

Definitely, when I told my friends I was going to become a vegetarian I felt like I was being interrogated by the U.S government. It still goes on to this day and I've been a vegetarian for a year and some months. They also bug me about animal crackers.

Get used to it. After 15 years I still have to deal with this crap. It's just part of being a vegetarian. I feel like vegetarianism mystifies people, probably because they can't imagine why you would choose to limit yourself.

My sister is a vegitarian and she gets so annoyed when people ask her why... she always says "Would you like it if someone digested you?" most people in my family are vegitarians, don't let those annoying people get you down, just tell them to accept you for who you are... don't worry you will get through it =)

it can be annoying, but ignore it. when i went vegetarian i didn't tell my friends until i had been for for over four months. because they are the kind of people who would ask "what are your going to eat?" and " you're going to waste away to nothing!" when i told them i made it clear that it was ok, and healthy.
