Diabetes has many symptoms such as
Frequent urination
Excessive thirst
Extreme hunger
Unusual weight loss
Increased fatigue
Irritability
Blurry vision

The best way to know is to be tested by your doctor if they suspect anything. You can control diabetes with diet in many cases, but not all. I would ask family members also because it does run genetically.

Good luck

You can get a blood sugar monitor at the drug store for $10. They usually come with 10 strips. That is more than enough to figure out if you are diabetic. Having two blood sugars over 200 in your life is diabetes. Normal range is usually 80-120 before meals, slightly higher up to two hours after. Anything 150-200 can be pre-diabetic, so talk to your doctor.

Totally worth the $10 investment.

First of all, being "pre-diabetic" or "boderline diabetic" is a myth. It is like pregnancy, you either are or aren't. You should never have an elevated blood sugar, if you do then your are diabetic.

And not all diabetes is genetic. Type II, the kind generally appears in older, overweight people is genetic. However, often, people who don't have it in their family get this kind, 90% of diabetics are Type II.

Type I is generally found in kids and much younger adults. I was 19 or 20 when I was diagnosed. This type has nothing to do with genetics. This type is caused by the body attacking itself.

Most of the symptoms listed above are acurate. If you believe you have it, I would consult a physician immediately!!

In pre-diabetes, blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be characterized as diabetes. However, many people with pre-diabetes develop type 2 diabetes within 10 years. Pre-diabetes also increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. With modest weight loss and moderate physical activity, people with pre-diabetes can delay or prevent type 2 diabetes.
