My Dad has been on anti-statin(sp?) medications, Crestor being one of them, and 2 others, and had bad reactions, MUSCLE WEAKNESS, FATIQUE, TIRED, LEGS GIVING OUT ON HIM. He was a very active healthy man until he took these cholesterol lowering drugs, and now he is very ill. My nieghbor has had the same problems, and the muscles haven't come back. My dad and my nieghbor were very active people and now have no energy, their muscles hurt, legs give out, and they are tired all the time, and feel aweful. Do you know of anyone who has had these problems from these medicines and what was done to help them? My Parent has been off these cholesterol lowering drugs for 2 years, and has not gotten his strength back. he used to jog, walk faster than I could keep up with him, and now he cannot even take the dog for a walk. What hope is their out there for our loved ones who have taken these medications? What treatment worked for people you know. SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY. thank you.

Crestor has been considered to cause liver damage and muscle and stomach pain.I would suggest trying Cholostyramine it is by rx only and does not have as great a side effects as other stains. It's a powder does not cause muscle pain. How long were they on the meds depends on to what extent their problem is. I know I would get blood work done to see what condition everything is in.

It can take some serious times to recover from a bad interaction to a med. However, since you are speaking about 2 yrs, permanent damage may have been done. I would see if others are having the same reaction, as this might be a problem with this drug. If you find this to be true, then contact an attorney to see what can be done to monetarily compensate you for the future medical costs of any problems.

I cannot say if it will help, but I personally found Coenzyme Q10 to help with energy production. I would also try Ginseng. However, I would take anything under supervision of a physician.

everyone reacts differently to different meds. i take crestor and i feel much better. but i took others that gave me weak muscles. only your doctor can fix this. let them know of the effects so they can find something that will work.

Sorry to hear about this. I have known of a few patients with this problem (rhabdomyolysis). It is a rare but serious side effect of statins. Did your dad stop the meds as soon as he started experiencing the symptoms? The important thing with this problem is to cease the medication immediately and seek medical attention, as the main danger is to the kidneys because when the muscle breaks down, the kidneys then have to clear these breakdown products. I haven't actually seen anyone with such a long term muscle problem from statins, as it has generally resolved once the statin has been ceased. Has any type of physical therapy (physiotherapy etc) been looked into as a possible help? I have seen people with other muscular weakness problems improve significantly with long term physical therapy.

Another thing to possibly look at is a Coenzyme Q10 supplement. There is evidence now that statins deplete the body of this enzyme, which is important in energy production in the cells, and so people on statins may benefit greatly from taking this supplement. If muscle cells are starved of this enzyme, then it may affect their normal function and cause them to break down. Have a look into this supplement (there is a lot of information on the internet) & discuss it with his doctor.
Good luck - hope this info helps.
