Are you referring to a "tracheostomy"or "tracheotomy"?
Any Library will have a medical reference book describing this procedure and may even have potos.
This is a medical incision which opens the airway at the base of the throat (below the Adams apple) to allow for air exchange. This surgical procedure can be performed as a result of complications or diseases from smoking.......hope this helps.

Just search for it on Google Images. And i think you'd end up with lung cancer more often than a hole in the throat :)

a hole caused by smoking? maybe what you mean is not a hole but rather a tumor, cancer or even yet a lungs w/c is not functioning well. then a tube will be placed in your throat and will create a hole. you call it tracheotomy
