If you say your taking medicine for the herpes already (I assume its pill form like valtrex).
One thing you can do along with the meds is a regimen of ASPIRIN every 4-6 hours till the outbreak heals. Aspirin has antihistamine in it which will help minimize the irritation (itching,swelling redness) and heal faster. Works for both genital and mouth herpes.

if you are talking about oral herpes, aka cold sores, Abreva is very effective.
if, however, you are talking about genital herpes, there isn't anything available, you just have to take the medication and wait it out....remember you shed the virus for several days after the lesions are gone, so practise safe sex.

yes when I was taking all my meds and stuff for it the doc gave me a cream, I wish I remembered the name but that helps fight the virus on the outside to clear up the breakout faster. it also helps relieve some of the discomfort and believe me I lived by it also try L-lysine to prevent future breakouts ... hope that helps... ask you doc they should know

Beside the treatment that you are taking.Also try to boost your immune system by certain other natural remedies as long they don,t interact with the medication that you take these days.

if its on your lips then use Lysine-found in rite aid stores
if its on your genitals then go to an herbal store and purchase
L-Lysine taken orally to prevent or make outbreaks less severe
