I am 11 weeks pg. I also have a horrendous cold- stuffy nose, sore throat, coughing constantly... does anyone know if Tylenol cold & Flu is safe for me to take, or do you have a resource I can check out to find out? I can't see my dr till Monday and I need some relief from this cold! I am losing my voice, and can't just sleep it off, because I have a 4 yo son at home too... I get sinus infections a lot, so I would like to get this cold under control before it becomes a sinus issue... a list of meds I can take safely during pregnancy and a backup source would be appreciated.
Thanks!

You can take Tylenol for the acheness, and you can use Halls Fruit breezers- but only a few for the sore throat and cough. Use Salene(sp?) Nasal Spray for the stuffy nose- it is only salt water and doesn't bother you or the baby. The salene nasal sray will clean out your sinus and help prevent an infection... my ENT suggest I use it everytime I get congested, and I havent had a sinus infection for a while. These help and wont hurt the baby.

Hope you feel better.

I know that Tylenol is supposed to be safe, but I'm not sure about Tylenol cold products. Talk to a pharmacist. They can tell you if a certain drug is rated safe for pregnancy or not. That's what I usually do. If you have a drug plan, sometimes a prescription med is cheaper than an otc, and they can also tell you if there's an otc version or generic version that would do the same as a prescription, but be cheaper.

nope..sorry..you cannot take it. What you can take is sudafed, but the basic one...not the ones for cold or flu, just the basic decongestant. You can also take Vicks 44 cough syrup I THINK. I was given a list with both my kids. It was a pretty strict list. Unfortunately you will have to deal with the majority of the cold. Dr's will tell you different things tho...some dr's say stuff is ok that other dr's will not. Why don't you just call your dr's office, the receptionist should have a list and be able to tell you which one's your particular dr will allow. You don't have to see them to get the information.

I was told by my Dr. that you should take absolutely nothing that isn't required until after 12 weeks. If you feel like you have to take something, take tylenol and sudafed, not the cold and flu tylenol. You sound like you need some relief, so take it, but sparingly.

I was only told that Tylenol, Benadryl and Robitussin DM (with nothing else in it) was safe during pregnancy. Also the Vicks Vaporub and cough drops.

Every OB is different, if you can't see your doc till monday, at least call them, they will tell you over the phone what meds are safe for you to take.

Do you work? If so, call a hotline number provided by your health insurance provider (or your spouses). I know I have Blue Shield and they have a 24/7 nurse hotline to answer such questions. Good luck.

Ask your doctor, as a doctor would be the only person truely qualified to answer this question.
